Phillips has sold since 1796 but is the most modern of the London houses in every sense: its sales are twentieth-century and contemporary art, design, photographs and watches, and its Berkeley Square building, opened in 2014, is a gallery first and a saleroom second. The exhibitions before the evening sales in March and October bring together a season's worth of Richter, Hockney and Kusama.
