Cine-Real at the Castle

A film club that shows on 16mm and nothing else, in a cinema above a parade of shops in Homerton.

In The Castle Cinema.

Cine-Real has been running since 2011 on a single rule: the film is projected from 16mm prints, not from a hard drive. What that gets you is the thing digital restoration is designed to remove - grain, a little weave in the frame, the reel changes - and a print that has been somewhere and shows it. The films are usually ones everybody has seen and almost nobody has seen this way.

It is one of the Castle's regular strands, listed under its own name in the programme. The Castle is upstairs, was derelict for twenty years, and was reopened by two people who raised the money from the neighbourhood.
