The best food markets in London. Street food, fresh produce and the food halls worth a detour.
A covered market three minutes from the Tube, seventeen food traders deep and open late at weekends.
Tooting Market has traded since 1916, and the market's own history dates the present hall to the 1930s. The food and drink side now runs from Mauritian and Guyanese to Korean, Japanese ramen, Portuguese grills and Italian panzerotti, alongside two greengrocers and several small bars. It stays open until 22:30 on Friday and Saturday, when it works more as somewhere to eat and drink than to shop, and there is live music on Thursday evenings. Named best small indoor market at the Great British Market Awards in 2017. Individual traders keep their own hours, so the hall being open does not mean every stall is.
