Built for the 2012 Olympics, the cable car crosses the river on three towers with the O2, the Thames Barrier, Canary Wharf and the docks laid out below, and it is the only piece of urban cable engineering in the country: a kilometre of wire rope, thirty-four cabins, and a crossing that slows to a crawl at quiet times so the view lasts. Pay with a contactless card as on the Tube.
