No. 11 Group controlled the fighter squadrons over London and the south-east from this bunker, and the plotting table, the tote board of squadron states and the gallery where the controllers sat have been restored to the afternoon of the battle's climax; Churchill watched from the gallery on 16 August and said the words about the few on the drive back to Chequers. A modern visitor centre above tells the wider story; the bunker itself is by guided tour down the seventy-six steps.
