London's stages and concert rooms: the West End houses and the playhouses that make their own shows, the grand halls, the churches with a musical life, the jazz basements, the comedy clubs, the clubs proper, and the rooms above pubs where things start. Bussey Building

A Victorian cricket-bat factory in Peckham, saved from demolition and full of everything.

GigsLateWorth it for the building

George Bussey made cricket bats and sporting goods here from the 1880s; the building was due to be knocked down for a tram route in 2007 and was saved by a campaign. It now holds club rooms, a rooftop bar and cinema, studios and galleries under the name CLF Art Cafe, and has been at the centre of Peckham's last two decades. The stairs are steep and there are more floors than you expect.
