Chapel Down Vineyard

England's best-known winery, and the only one here that needs a proper taxi at the far end.

Also in Wine.

Chapel Down is the name most people reach for when they think of English wine, and the visit is built for it: guided tours of the winery, a tasting bar where you can work through a flight, a self-guided walk through the vines if you would rather not book, and a stretch tent to share a bottle under.

Be clear about the journey. Headcorn is about an hour from Charing Cross, but the winery is a twenty-minute taxi from Headcorn station — much the longest transfer of any vineyard here, and not a walk. Book the cab in advance rather than hoping for one on the rank.
