Gusbourne's wines win about as much as English wine wins — their Fifty One Degrees North has taken gold and 98 points — and the estate on the edge of Romney Marsh runs proper seated tastings and vineyard walks rather than a quick pour at a counter. Appledore is about an hour and a quarter from St Pancras, then a five-minute taxi. Book ahead; they are not a walk-in.
