Four hundred and more eights, started one at a time down the Championship Course.
Annual eventFree
A processional race rather than a side-by-side one: crews set off at ten-second intervals from Mortlake and are timed over the four and a quarter miles down to Putney, which makes it the largest gathering of rowing eights in the world. Best watched from the Chiswick or Hammersmith bank, where the whole field passes you for the better part of an hour.
The 2027 race is on Saturday 20 March at 14:45. It is occasionally cancelled at short notice for weather or tide, so check before travelling.
