Hidden London: Holborn — the secret platforms

A third of Holborn is closed to the public. This is that third.

Guided tourHistoryUnderground

Hidden London is the London Transport Museum's programme of guided tours into parts of the Underground that passengers never see: stations closed decades ago, passages sealed off during rebuilds, and deep-level wartime shelters. A guide takes you down in a small group, and the museum runs each tour on a handful of dates that are released in batches and sell out quickly, so these are booked ahead rather than turned up for.

The abandoned platforms that served the Aldwych shuttle, a view of the crossover the trains used, and tunnels that have stood in for other places on film, Superman among them. The guides carry first-hand accounts from staff who worked here through the Blitz and on the shuttle's last day. 85 minutes, meeting at Gate Street and Kingsway. Selected dates to 24 January 2027.
