London's New Year's Day Parade

Ten thousand performers walking from Piccadilly to Whitehall, on the first afternoon of the year.

Piccadilly to WhitehallFamily friendlyAnnual eventFree

Marching bands flown in from American high schools, cheerleaders, vintage buses, borough floats and a great many people who have been up since five. It runs from around 12:00 to half four, down Piccadilly, through St James's and Pall Mall, across Trafalgar Square and along Whitehall. Free to watch from the pavement; seats in the grandstands are sold.

The whole route is packed by late morning, so the far end near Parliament Street thins out before Piccadilly does. Start times and the exact line of the route are confirmed on the parade's own site in December.
