King Street, St James's, since 1823: the salerooms whose viewings put Old Masters and Impressionists on public show for free.

James Christie held his first sale in 1766 and the firm has been at 8 King Street since 1823, in a building whose great room has seen the sale of half the paintings in half the museums. The exhibitions before each sale are open to anyone - the Old Masters in July and December, the Impressionists and the contemporary evening sales in spring and autumn - and are among the best free shows in London while they last.
