Barbara Hepworth's aluminium and steel wing on the side of John Lewis, Oxford Street, since 1963.
Outdoor sculptureFree
Hepworth was commissioned by John Lewis for the corner of its new store and made a six-metre figure in aluminium with rods of stainless steel strung across it like a harp, fixed high on the Holles Street wall where it catches the light; it is the largest Hepworth in London and thousands of people walk under it every hour without looking up. Restored in 2013 for its fiftieth birthday.
