Whirled Cinema ran under this arch for fifteen years and closed; Coldharbour Blue opened in the same place to carry it on. The programme is new independent releases, arthouse, documentary and older films, each shown two or three times over a fortnight rather than once.
It works as a club rather than a box office. Membership is £15 a month or £150 a year and covers you and a guest for six screenings a month, and members do not book - you turn up, get a drink and find a seat. Non-members buy a ticket for a single film. Both are cheaper than anywhere central and the room is small enough that it matters who else is in it.
