William Penhaligon came from Penzance and set up on Jermyn Street in the 1870s next to the Hammam. Hammam Bouquet, made in 1872, was his first and is still sold; it is supposed to smell of the steam and sandalwood next door.
The bottles with their ribboned stoppers are the giveaway. The Burlington Arcade shop is the one to visit for the fittings.
