Whitecross Street Market

A lunchtime street market trading since 1680, and still about a fiver.

Weekday lunch, roughly eleven to two, when the Barbican and Old Street offices come out: hog roast, Thai, Vietnamese, Moroccan, Turkish, plus Luardos for burritos and The Iskelé for lahmacun. Portions are large, most of it costs about five pounds, and the queues move. Fortune Street Park is where to sit.
