The centre was founded in 1995 in a former school and rebuilt on the same Hammersmith site, and it programmes as a venue rather than as an embassy office: traditional music sessions, touring Irish theatre, film, literature, and classes in Irish language and in set dancing. It serves the Irish community in London, which is the largest anywhere outside Ireland, and anyone else who buys a ticket.
