One of three Japan Houses in the world - the others are in Los Angeles and São Paulo - and the only one in Europe. The ground floor is a shop of Japanese goods chosen by region and maker; the gallery below runs free exhibitions, usually of craft, photography or design, changed every few months; there is a library, a sunken restaurant and a bar.
The programme around the exhibitions is talks, workshops, screenings and demonstrations. Admission is free, though a few of the workshops charge.
