A loan from France, agreed between the two governments, puts the Bayeux Tapestry in Room 30 of the British Museum - the first time in roughly a thousand years it has been on this side of the Channel. Seventy metres of embroidery telling the story of 1066, likely commissioned by a Norman patron but stitched by English hands from Canterbury drawings, and as much a record of everyday life as of the battle: ships, castles, clothes, food, furniture. Tickets are hard to come by and sell out in waves rather than sitting on general sale. The museum's own page gives the next dates: Members' priority booking reopens on 6 October 2026, and tickets covering 1 January to 31 March 2027 go on sale to everyone on 21 October 2026. Sign up to their newsletter if you want warning. The gallery opens Sunday to Wednesday 10:00 to 18:00 and Thursday to Saturday 10:00 to 21:00, so the late evenings are the quieter shot.
