Havering Museum

The five towns of Havering, in what is left of Romford's brewery, run by its own volunteers.

Havering is the borough at London's eastern edge that was still Essex until 1965, and its museum gives a display each to its five towns: Romford, the market town whose cattle market was chartered in 1247; Hornchurch, with the RAF station whose Spitfires flew in the Battle of Britain; Rainham, Upminster, and Havering-atte-Bower, the village with the royal palace that gave the borough its name. It opened in May 2010, after a decade of work by local historians, in the surviving buildings of the Ind Coope brewery that made Romford's beer until 1993, and it is run by a team of about thirty volunteers.
