Ealing Beaver Project Safari

Wild beavers, back in a west London field, watched from a few metres away.

Wildlife

Beavers were hunted out of Britain four hundred years ago. A family was released into Paradise Fields in Greenford in 2023 — the first in the capital — and has been rebuilding the place ever since: dams across the brook, new pools, drowned willow coming back as scrub. The evening safari is two hours with one of the project leads, part briefing and part standing very still at the water in the half-light.

They are wild animals and nobody promises you a sighting. Book ahead; sessions run several evenings a week from 7pm at around £28, and are over-16s only. Wear muted colours and boots that survive wet ground, and skip the perfume — a beaver smells you long before it sees you. There is also a free family guided walk in the afternoons if the evening is too much of an ask.
