One of the seven great commercial cemeteries opened around London in the 1830s and 40s — Kensal Green, West Norwood, Highgate, Abney Park, Brompton, Nunhead and Tower Hamlets, the Magnificent Seven — and the least visited of them. Fifty-two acres, mostly reclaimed by ash and sycamore, with an Anglican chapel left as a roofless ruin and a clearing near the top that frames St Paul's dead centre between the trees. The Friends run free guided tours on the last Sunday of the month.
