Historic interior
About 1868, builder unknown, with a pineapple carved into the keystone of every opening. What earned it its protection is the screen behind the bar: etched-glass mirrors of vases of flowers with pineapples beneath them, a frieze lettered WHISKIES BRANDIES WINES across four Corinthian pilasters, and a rear counter standing on pineapple consoles. The rest of the interior has been altered, and there is a large conservatory at the back.
It was saved from closure by a campaign in 2001-2 run by the people who drink here, with CAMRA and the London papers behind them; the cuttings and a plaque are up in the bar, and the campaigners are still regulars. It has twice been North London CAMRA's Pub of the Year, most recently in 2012, and took their Pub of Pubs in 2024.
