Akara are fritters of crushed black-eyed beans, eaten across West Africa and carried to Brazil by the slave trade, where they became acaraje. The restaurant in Borough Yards puts them at the centre of the menu and follows the same journey through the rest of it. The kitchen cannot work round several common allergies, which it says plainly on the site.
