The music trade took this street in the 1950s, publishers upstairs and studios in the basements, and the rebuilding of the whole block behind it was widely expected to be the end of the shops. It was not. Twelve of the thirty-four businesses on the street sell instruments.
Wunjo has three of them, including one for basses alone; Rose Morris and Hanks have been here for decades; Sax.co.uk sells one family of instrument and nothing else; Regent Sounds was the recording studio before it was a guitar shop and kept the name; and Rough Trade has a record shop at the Charing Cross Road end. It is a hundred and seven metres long, so it is a street you can do in an afternoon and often a queue to get into the small shops on a Saturday.
