Performance venues

London's stages and concert rooms: the West End houses and the playhouses that make their own shows, the grand halls, the churches with a musical life, the jazz basements, the comedy clubs, the clubs proper, and the rooms above pubs where things start. What is on is listed under each venue, and in What's On.

Islington Assembly Hall

The art deco ballroom attached to Islington Town Hall, with the original sprung floor.

GigsWorth it for the building

Built in 1930 as part of the town hall and used for civic functions and dances, it was shut for years and restored in 2010. The interior is intact: the panelling, the balcony, the barrel ceiling and a sprung dance floor that people still notice. Around nine hundred capacity, and one of the few rooms of that size in London where the building is a reason to go.
