Performance venues

London's stages and concert rooms: the West End houses and the playhouses that make their own shows, the grand halls, the churches with a musical life, the jazz basements, the comedy clubs, the clubs proper, and the rooms above pubs where things start. What is on is listed under each venue, and in What's On.

What is on at them this week is in What's On: Performance

Jazz Cafe

A former bank in Camden where the definition of jazz has always been generous and the balcony is the place to be.

It has been here since 1990, in a Parkway building that was a Barclays before it was anything else, and its programme runs well past jazz into soul, funk, hip hop, Latin and Afrobeat - which was controversial once and is simply what the room is now.

The floor is standing and gets tight; the balcony has the tables and the sightlines, and is booked separately. Club nights carry on after the live set.
