West EndCheap day seats
The low building with the clock on the south side of Leicester Square is the Society of London Theatre's own booth, and what it sells is the seats the West End has left for that day. You arrive with no plan, read the board, and take whatever is going for the matinee or the evening - up to half price, and for whatever is actually running rather than a fixed list. Advance seats are sold too, but the point of coming is the same-day board.
The staff book theatre for a living, so ask: they will say where the seat really is, which restricted view is fine and which is not, and what is worth the money this week. You leave with a paper ticket. Everyone still calls it TKTS.
Several other ticket shops trade around the square and this is the only one the theatre industry runs itself, as a not-for-profit - it faces the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hampshire hotel, and the clock is how you know it.
