Cinemas
Dee and Asher started the project in 2015 and ran the first test screenings in December 2016 with one screen, evening opening and no coffee machine. It was crowdfunded by the neighbourhood, and what the money has built since is a second screen, a kitchen, a bar, and a cinema open from ten in the morning until late every day but Christmas Day.
There are no adverts before the films - ten minutes of trailers and the cinema's own slides instead - so a listed time is close to the real one. The rest of how it runs follows from the same decision to answer to its audience rather than to a chain: a concession membership you certify yourself, free children's screenings through Into Film, accessible and relaxed screenings, and staff trained in dementia awareness, autism awareness and basic British Sign Language. A second Castle has opened in Sidcup.
Open from 10:00 until late every day except Christmas Day; the bar and cafe do not need a ticket.
