Performance venues

London's stages and concert rooms: the West End houses and the playhouses that make their own shows, the grand halls, the churches with a musical life, the jazz basements, the comedy clubs, the clubs proper, and the rooms above pubs where things start. What is on is listed under each venue, and in What's On.

MOTH Club

A veterans' social club in Hackney with a gold tinsel ceiling, hired out for gigs six nights a week.

GigsLate

MOTH stands for the Memorable Order of Tin Hats, an ex-servicemen's association, and the Old Trades Hall is still its club: there is a members' bar, a regimental board on the wall and a stage under a ceiling of gold tinsel that nobody has ever had the heart to take down. Promoters started using the hall in 2014 and it now runs new bands and club nights most nights of the week, with the veterans still drinking in the front room.
