Coward's theatrical family invite four guests for the weekend and put them through it for sport.
The Blisses are retired actors, novelists and children who cannot stop performing, and the joke is that the guests never work out the rules of the house. Coward wrote it in three days in 1924 and claimed it had no plot, which is roughly true and entirely beside the point.
