Nine societies - the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Pastel Society, the Society of Wildlife Artists among them - hold their annual exhibitions in these rooms under the Admiralty Arch end of the Mall, so the programme is a calendar of figurative painting as it is practised now, alongside the Threadneedle and the BP-successor portrait prizes. Everything is for sale and the artists are often in the room.
