Soane rebuilt three houses around his collection and lit them with mirrors and coloured glass so the rooms fold into each other. The picture room's walls open outwards to reveal more paintings behind; the basement holds the sarcophagus of Seti I, bought when the British Museum would not pay. Free, small, and capacity-limited, so expect to queue.
