The Showroom has commissioned new work since 1983, first in Bethnal Green and since 2009 on Penfold Street, and its list of first London shows - Mona Hatoum, Simon Starling, Eva Rothschild, Jim Lambie, Wolfgang Tillmans's first UK institutional show - is out of proportion to its size. Two rooms in a former warehouse, with a programme built around the neighbourhood as much as the art world.
