Reached through a chain of narrow alleys off Fleet Street, and quiet in a way nowhere that close to it has any right to be. The tall brick house at the end is where Samuel Johnson compiled his Dictionary between 1748 and 1755, in the garret with six copyists; it is a museum now. The rest of the square is later brick, the lamps are on brackets, and the ground is still setts.
