Lincoln's Inn

Gatehouse, chapel and hall round two courts and a lawn, in the middle of legal London.

Squares & yards

The Great Hall across the lawn, on a winter evening.

Also in Power & Politics and Literary London.

One of the four Inns of Court and the one that has kept most of itself: the Tudor gatehouse on Chancery Lane of 1518, the Old Hall behind it, a chapel with an undercroft to walk through, and the Victorian Great Hall and library on the north side of the lawn. It is private ground open on weekdays, and stepping in from Chancery Lane is one of the sharper changes of pace in London.
