Squares & yards
The medieval lanes here were flattened in 1940 and what replaced them was rebuilt again in the 1990s: a paved square with a column and a market cross, offices around it and the London Stock Exchange on one side. What makes it worth the detour is the way in from the cathedral: Temple Bar, Wren's stone gateway of 1672, which once stood on Fleet Street, spent a century in a Hertfordshire park and was brought back and rebuilt here in 2004.
