New Bond Street

The luxury spine of Mayfair, and the Christmas lights people come across London to stand under.

Terraces

New Bond Street after the shops have shut.

Bond Street has been the address for expensive shopping since the eighteenth century and has never had to try again: the flagships run one after another from Oxford Street down to Piccadilly, with Sotheby's auction house halfway along and the arcades opening off to the west. It is two streets pretending to be one — Old Bond Street at the southern end, New Bond Street for the rest — and nobody local uses either name. In December it is roofed with lights and effectively a pedestrian street whatever the road markings say.
