It opened in 2022 and programmes curated seasons alongside a few selected new releases - the Czechoslovak New Wave, the films of Andrzej Zulawski, retrospectives given to a director or a country - with filmmakers and specialists brought in to talk afterwards, and those conversations recorded and published. Three screens of forty, sixty and seventy seats, so nothing is far from the front.
Two Art Deco bars carry the rest of it: the Garden Bar, with alcove seating for two or three people, and the Atrium Bar, an open room used for premieres and the seasonal film quiz. The snacks there are picked, in the cinema's own words, to minimise crunches, smells and rustles, which tells you what sort of audience it is for. Membership is £25 a year and includes a free screening every fortnight, and there are pay-what-you-can family screenings.
