DocHouse started in October 2002 as a travelling programme, putting international documentaries into cinemas around London a week at a time. The Bertha Foundation came in behind it in 2010, and in March 2015 it got a room of its own: fifty-five seats inside the Curzon Bloomsbury, programmed entirely with documentary and running every day of the week.
What that makes possible is a kind of film that otherwise gets one screening at a festival and disappears - work with no distributor, festival titles that never get a release here, retrospectives and themed seasons. Directors come in to take questions often enough that it is part of the offer rather than an occasional event, and there are masterclasses for people making their own.
