Neal's Yard Dairy

The shop that saved British farmhouse cheese, maturing it in its own cellars and selling it at the peak.

Randolph Hodgson began in 1979 and did something nobody else was doing: went to the farms, bought the cheese young, and matured it himself, which gave the remaining British farmhouse makers a reason to keep going. A good part of the modern British cheese revival traces back to this counter.

The staff will cut and taste anything before you buy. Shorts Gardens is the original; there is another at Borough Market.
