Squares & yards
A triangular yard of warehouses behind Monmouth Street, derelict by the 1970s and taken on by Nicholas Saunders, who opened a wholefood shop and a dairy and let the rest follow. The walls are painted turquoise, pink, yellow and orange, the window boxes are full, and the businesses are still small: a pizza place, a salad bar, the remedies shop that took the yard's name and made it a brand. Two narrow alleys are the only way in.
