Saturday is the antiques day and the part worth planning around is not the street stalls but the covered arcades off it - Admiral Vernon, the Good Fairy, Portobello Studios - where several hundred specialist dealers keep permanent stands.
Go early. The silver dealers in particular are as serious as anywhere in London, and the prices are not the ones on the pavement.
