The Boxer brothers - Jackson of Brunswick House, Frank of Frank's in Peckham - took the cellar under Stone Nest and left the decay showing: bare walls, missing plaster, a candle on every table. Highballs are the point, a spirit lengthened with a mixer and served tall. The chapel above, built in 1888 and historically protected, spent 1985 to 2009 as the Limelight nightclub; in its churchgoing years the sermon was piped down here for the overflow.
