A Welsh chapel of 1888 that became the Limelight, then a squat, and is now a theatre.

James Cubitt built it in 1888 as the Welsh Presbyterian Chapel, a galleried hall under an umbrella dome, and it was the centre of Welsh life in London for a century. It closed, became the Limelight nightclub in 1985, closed again in 2009, and was squatted in 2010 by a collective who put on cabaret in it.
Stone Nest took the building on in 2012 and has kept it in the state it found it: bare brick, stripped plaster, the dome overhead. It stages theatre, dance, music and club nights, and there is a bar in the basement. Historically protected, and unlike anything else on Shaftesbury Avenue.
