Jack Thorne's play, from a story by Rowling, John Tiffany and Thorne, opened at the Palace in 2016 as two parts seen on one day or on consecutive evenings, and after ten years it becomes one: the two-part production gives its last performances on 20 September 2026, and a reworked single-performance version of about two hours fifty-five, with one interval, opens on 6 October. The building was Richard D'Oyly Carte's Royal English Opera House of 1891 and later ran Les Misérables for nineteen years; inside it is one of the West End's grandest, with marble stairs and a four-tier auditorium, and the red terracotta front on Cambridge Circus is painted with golden wings.
