Desserts & Gelato

The sweet course as a destination: gelato and ice cream, cakes and patisserie, chocolate, and the dessert bars where pudding is the whole point. Bread and the morning are next door, in Bakeries.

Konditor

The Waterloo shop where Gerhard Jenne started in 1993, and still where the Curd Pie comes from.

Cakes & patisserieSomewhere to sit

A Konditor is a pastry chef in German, and Gerhard Jenne trained as one in Munich after an apprenticeship as a baker, came to London to work for the grocer Justin de Blank, and opened his own place on Cornwall Road in 1993. It is a back street behind Waterloo and the shop is small, which is part of why it worked.

The things to know are the Curd Pie, a lemon cheesecake on a shortcrust base, the whisky-soaked Boozy Chocolate cake, and the Magic Cakes - small iced squares sold loose, which people buy by the dozen and arrange into words.
