Fish Central has been run by the same family since 1968, in a shopping precinct on an estate off Old Street, and the setting tells you nothing about the cooking. The fish and chips are straight, and the rest of the menu goes further than it needs to - oysters, lobster, a proper wine list - at prices that have not caught up with the ambition.
