The best fish and chips in London. The Victorian dining rooms, the family counters that have been frying for sixty years, and the shops the trade's own awards keep naming - in every part of the city, not only the middle of it.
Beef dripping, formica tables and no concessions to the present day.
Sit-down restaurant
One of the last London chippies frying in beef dripping rather than oil, which gives the batter a savour vegetable oil cannot. The room has not been redecorated in living memory - formica, long benches, a counter - and the menu runs to rock and skate and saveloys alongside the cod. Cash is easier than card. Sources differ on whether it opened in 1958 or 1962; the shop itself says the fifties.
