A shop has been frying fish at 47 Endell Street since 1871, which is before the fish and chip shop was really a settled idea. It claims the biggest chips in the country and fries them in peanut oil, and it puts tables out on the pavement in a part of Covent Garden where that is worth something. The queue outside is usually longer than the room inside.
